LGBTQ+ College Student Guide from Intelligent.com

Choosing the right school is vital for every college-bound student, but it can be more challenging for those who identify as LGBTQ+. In addition to the many obstacles that all students face, it is important that LGBTQ+ students also consider whether the institution has LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs, and practices to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Intelligent.com's guide provides prospective students and their families with tools to identify the right schools, an overview of common challenges, tips for applying, and details on the federal laws that protect LGBTQ students.

Youth Outlook

Youth Outlook offers safe, supportive, and affirming services for LGBTQ+ youth, their families, and the community. Please see below for a list of Drop-In Centers, including locations and suggested ages.

Parent Support Groups

Locations: Naperville, Illinois and Palatine, Illinois

Parents of transgender youth have found this community particularly helpful. Because we provide safe confidential space for parents to discuss personal topics in an open manner with each other, babies and children cannot be present during group. Grandparents and other relatives have a different role with our kids and we are happy to offer other resources such as PFLAG for extended family members. Please read the Thrive Parent Support Group guidelines for more information.

Thrive Naperville meets the first and third Wednesdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church in Naperville (1828 Old Naperville Road). This group meets concurrently with our Transcend Drop-In.

Thrive Palatine meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Countryside Unitarian Church in Palatine (1025 N. Smith St.).

What to expect:

- Connection with fellow parents through shared experiences
- Support and empowerment from caring, trained staff and fellow parents
- Resources and education
