When benefits pause, community steps up.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) helps working families put food on the table, but when those benefits pause or get reduced, the gap hits hard and fast.
That’s where we come in.
SNAP to It is a local relief campaign powered by MDW Cares to help neighbors bridge the gap until benefits return. We’re collecting donations to purchase grocery store gift cards and distribute them directly to families and individuals in our community who need a little extra support right now.
No red tape. No judgement. Just care.
The Truth About SNAP
There’s a common myth that SNAP recipients don’t work, but the truth tells a different story.
Most people on SNAP are working. In 2021, 86% of SNAP households with working-age adults reported earnings.
SNAP helps working families get by, not get ahead. Many recipients work in low-wage, unpredictable jobs (childcare, service, retail) where hours and income fluctuate.
SNAP fills the gap. It’s a supplement, not a handout, and when it stops, the need doesn’t disappear.
Our neighbors who rely on SNAP are caregivers, essential workers, single parents, and community members doing their best to make ends meet.
How It Works
Give: Community members donate through the MDW Cares site.
We Purchase: Donations are used to buy local grocery store gift cards.
We Distribute: Cards are given directly to neighbors who apply through our simple online form.
Every $25 helps a neighbor put groceries on the table this week.
Why It Matters
When one of us struggles, we all feel it.
This campaign isn’t about charity, it’s about solidarity.
Let’s show what it means to be a community rooted in care.
Let’s SNAP to It together.
