Life After Divorce Isn’t the End—It’s the Beginning

Divorce is one of the most emotionally and logistically overwhelming life transitions anyone can face. It’s not just the legal separation of two people—it’s the unraveling of an identity, a lifestyle, and in many cases, a long-held vision of the future.
But what happens after the paperwork is signed, the house is divided, and the kids are adjusting to a new routine?
For many, the answer is stress. Lots of it.
From co-parenting conflicts and financial strain to the emotional weight of rebuilding a life on your own terms, post-divorce life can feel isolating and uncertain. And for those over the age of 50—a growing demographic now known for what's been dubbed the gray divorce trend—the process can be especially daunting.
Financial expectations shift.
Housing needs change.
And navigating it all solo is often overwhelming.
But one local event is stepping in to offer real help—without judgment or sugarcoating.
"Rebuilding Your Life After Divorce", happening Tuesday, June 17, at Wyckwood House in downtown Aurora, is more than just another workshop.
It’s a powerful, community-centered evening created for people at any stage of the divorce process: contemplating it, in the thick of it, or on the other side wondering, “Now what?”
This two-hour event brings together a powerhouse lineup of professionals who are not only experts in their fields but compassionate guides for those navigating one of life’s most personal storms:
Alexis Benson, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones, Geneva
Carrie Summers, Therapist & Divorce Coach, Noreila Healing and Wellness, Wheaton
Anique Drouin, Family Law Attorney, Drouin Family Law, Batavia
Katy Winans & Linda Callaghan, Mortgage Experts, Guild Mortgage, Aurora
Each speaker will offer practical tools, honest advice, and hopeful strategies for the road ahead—whether that means finding emotional stability, securing financial footing, understanding legal rights, or simply feeling like yourself again.
And yes, the financial side of divorce is often just as complicated as the emotional. While costs vary, high-conflict or asset-heavy divorces can significantly increase the financial toll—something many people underestimate until they’re in it. Once it’s over, many individuals are left adjusting to a lower standard of living and the stress that comes with it.
Add to that the daily pressures of co-parenting, managing work-life balance, or finding a new home, and it’s no wonder so many experience chronic stress post-divorce.
That’s why this event is intentionally holistic—touching on all aspects of rebuilding. It’s not about quick fixes or toxic positivity. It’s about getting grounded, making smart decisions, and building a life that reflects who you are now—not who you were in your marriage.
“This workshop came from a desire to gather powerhouse professionals in their respective industries who could speak directly to the real struggles community members face during and after divorce,” says Elizabeth Rago, event organizer and founder of The Modern Domestic Woman. “Everyone deserves informed support and a safe space to rebuild without shame or confusion.”
