Word of the Week: Hobnob

ree

hob·nob | verb

Definition: To gather and chat with others in a relaxed, friendly way. Often, while sharing food, drinks, or good company.

Why We Love It

Hobnob is one of those deliciously old-fashioned words that feels like it belongs in a Jane Austen novel, but it deserves a comeback.

It’s about more than just small talk or networking. To hobnob is to connect warmly and genuinely, to share a conversation (or a drink!) that fills your cup, literally and figuratively.

Why It Matters

In a world where we text more than we talk, hobnobbing is an act of rebellion against loneliness. Whether it’s grabbing coffee with a friend, attending a local event, or chatting with your neighbor over the fence, hobnobbing reminds us that connection doesn’t have to be complicated.

This Week’s Invitation

Take a look at your calendar...where could you sneak in a little hobnobbing? It doesn’t have to be fancy:

  • Meet a friend for tea or a mocktail (we shared a great Spiced Apple Cider one in our MDW Weekender!).

  • Stop by a local event

  • Strike up a conversation with someone new at the farmers market or your favorite coffee shop.

Reflection Prompt

Who could you hobnob with this week to lift your spirits?

And how can you make it feel low-pressure and fun — no big agenda, just connection?

Bring Hobnob Back

Use “hobnob” in a sentence this week! Example:

“I’m off to hobnob at the farmers market; first stop, apple cider donuts.”

Snap a pic of your hobnobbing moment and tag us on social! We love seeing how you’re bringing these words to life.
